In the opinion of Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters, the road that needs paving above all others is located near Lyerly.
The pavement on Owens Dairy Road is so bad that it's a concern for bus traffic that uses it, the commissioner said. Now he is seeking prices to repave that stretch and nine other roads.
"The work shall be carried through to completion without unreasonable delays and without suspension of work unless authorized in writing by the Chattooga County Commissioner and is to be completed prior to Oct. 1," according to Winters.
Engineers estimate the price will be somewhere around $600,000-$650,000 to pave these 10 roads. Local sales tax dollars and funds through the Georgia Department of Transportation's Local Maintenance and Improvement Program will pay for the project.
The 9.9 miles of roads marked for paving, according to county records, include:
* Lick Skillet Road, Summerville, will get 1.5 miles of paving starting at Wildlife Lake Road.
* Owens Dairy Road, Lyerly, will get 1.7 miles of paving starting at Oak Hill Road.
* Jamestown Road, Menlo, will get 1.3 miles of paving starting at the Alabama state line.
* Valley View Ranch Road, Cloudland, will get 1.5 miles of paving starting at Highway 157.
* Lake Wanda Reita Road, Summerville, will get .8 miles of paving starting at Highway 27.
* Greenhill Memorial Garden Road, Pennville, will get .6 miles of paving starting at Highway 27.
* Hamp Brewer Road, Lyerly, will get a mile of paving starting at Highway 114.
* Wylan Hill/Wylan Terrace, Summerville, will get .6 miles of paving starting at Goodwin Drive.
* Goodwin Drive, Summerville, will get .7 miles of paving starting at the Summerville city limits.
* Sara Jane Lane, Summerville, will get .3 miles of paving starting at Orchard Hill Road.
The commissioner is seeking prices through a seal bid process. Those bids will be opened at 10 a.m. on May 3 in the commissioner's office at 10102 Commerce Street, Summerville.
