Contractors have submitted their cost estimates to add classrooms to Leroy Massey Elementary School. School officials are now looking at either re-bidding the addition to lower costs or cutting things to lower the bids 15-percent, according to Maintenance Director John Worsham.
The Leroy Massey addition will include 12 instructional units. The bid also includes an addition on the cafeteria and a new media center.
“The bids came in a little higher than we expected,” Worsham said. “If we can trim some of the costs we can make it happen.”
The base bid for the LMES addition was $3.364-million. The low bidder was J & J Construction, Chattanooga, Tenn., was the low bidder.
The other bid received was about $900,000 more.
RK Redding was the low bidder on the Lyerly Elementary gymnasium project. That bid was $4.2-million. Again, if the system can get the price lowered 15 percent they can proceed with the project.
“I hope that we don’t have to re-bid the project but as of right now there is a chance,” Worsham added.
