Commissioner’s Commendation for Law Enforcement Excellence - Troopers First Class Justin Henderson and Jeremy Battle, and Paramedic-EMT Marshall Greene
The Commissioner’s Commendation for Law Enforcement Excellence is presented to a sworn member for acts that display ability, skill and devotion to duty while executing an arrest, or performing an act beyond the call of duty which reflects great credit upon the member and the Department. A commendation can also be awarded to members that show skill and devotion through the implementation of programs which provide significant benefit to the overall mission of the Department.
TFCs Henderson and Battle, and Paramedic-EMT Greene are being commended for their work in revamping Post 38’s annual prom crash reenactment by adding a unique “distracted driving” education competent. The trio, spent approximately 500 hours on and off duty over several months, creating two separate reenactments for the school systems within Post 38’s territory. The students witnessing the reenactment see first-hand, the consequences of driving distracted as well as the grief and sorrow associated with the dramatic elements of investigating fatal crashes. During this event, Paramedic Greene shares the day his two sons were killed and his wife badly injured in a traffic crash related to distracted driving. He was working the day he was dispatched to his family’s crash.  After the event was viewed on several different media outlets, other law enforcement agencies across the country inquired about using the video or script of the reenactment in order to educate the children in their communities. One agency, the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department in Nicholasville, Kentucky, reached out to the men for their assistance in developing their own program. As a result of the request, the men traveled to Nicholasville and helped the sheriff’s department create their own reenactment program that was presented to both county high schools over two days.
