Trion’s fantastic wrestling season concluded on Saturday with a second place overall trophy in the traditional state tournament. The Bulldogs finished second behind Commerce. This is Trion’s second consecutive year finishing in the number two spot.
Commerce dominated the 1A tournament accumulating 238.5 points to take the title. Trion’s second place points total was 98, Wesleyan scored 89 and Irwin County 87.5 to round out the top four spots.
“I was very happy with the team,” Coach Eric Brock said after the tournament concluded. “To carry eight and all eight place is a great achievement. You always strive to have individual champions and it always breaks your heart for those who work so hard and come up a little short. Sometimes the greatest lessons are the losses and not the wins, even though we may not understand why.”
Individual results:
106 Alonzo Francisco sixth
120 Jamey Floyd sixth
126 Lincoln Maddux fifth
138 Cole Luallen second
152 Branson Bowman sixth
182 Jake Wells second
195 Logan Blevins second
220 Seth Cox third
Cole Luallen came into the final match undefeated for the season and the loss was his first and only loss this year 39-1. The wrestler who defeated Luallen (Dalton Flint) is a four-time state champion.
