The Chattooga Indians wrestling team finished off the season on Saturday with a sixth place finish overall in the state tournament. Four Chattooga wrestlers finished the day on the medal stand with one state champion, to cap off an excellent year for the program.
Griffin Jarrett finished his amazing season winning the 106 title. The win was his 69th on the season and is the all-time Chattooga record for wins in a season. Alex Mears ended the year with 46 pins which is also an all-time Chattooga record. With both wrestlers competing at such a high level in their freshman year, the future looks bright for CHS Wrestling.
Jarrett’s championship is the 14th individual state champion in Chattooga High History. Austin Jones third place finish making it two years in row with a top five finish.
Individual performances:
106 Griffin Jarrett, State Champion.
170 Efrain Hernandez, fifth.
195 Austin Jones, third.
220 Alex Mears, second.
“It was awesome to get the team back into the top ten,” Coach Brian Beasley said about the meet. “It was a solid performance by all five qualifiers. I am going to miss the seniors we are losing (Hernandez, Jones, and Neal). Griffin Jarrett was the second freshman to ever win it; Brandon Siffles was the first freshman to do it. Griffin came in with one goal of being a state champion and he busted his butt to make it happen.”
