Roland Nunn loved Trion. The retired Mount Vernon Mills employee, who passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 79, was born in Trion and lived almost his entire life in the town.Roland Nunn.jpg

Nunn is best remembered as the editor of the Trion Facts, a job he held for almost two decades; but he also dabbled in another medium, radio. Nunn was a newsman and disc jockey on WGTA in Summerville for many years after his retirement from the textile industry. He also played gospel music on Radio Station WATG for a number of years.

“Roland was one of those people dedicated to whatever he did,” said Don Henderson, Vice President of Manufacturing at Mount Vernon. “We worked together closely in 1973 when he was a timekeeper in the carding area.

“Roland was meticulous,” Henderson recalled. “Whether his job was in manufacturing, clerical or as editor of the Facts, he wanted everything to be done just right.”

Nunn served a four-year stint in the U.S. Army, in the 1950s but quickly returned to Trion and to his job at the textile mill. He held several positions over the years, including Zero Defects Coordinator, but it was as editor of the Trion Facts, the mill’s weekly newspaper, that Nunn really excelled.

“Roland was very dedicated to the company, to Trion, Ga. and to the things that make it go,” said   Henderson.

“I wish we had 1,200 more like him.”
