The Chattooga County Sheriff’s office uncovered several makeshift methamphetamine labs during the past week. The first lab was discovered Friday at a vacant mobile home belonging to William Glenn Alexander, 43, of 3730 Spring Creek Road, Trion. Investigators say they found five different labs on that one property. One makeshift lab was discovered in a brown duffle bag n ear a wood line. Another lab was discovered inside a cardboard box in the woods. Other labs were discovered inside the residence as well. Drug agents arrested Alexander and James M. Bruce, 42, of 40 Scoggins St., Summerville, in connection with that drug bust. Bruce was arrested for possession of meth, trafficking meth, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, manufacturing meth, possession of altered ephedrine and use of a communications facility in committing a felony, according to jail reports. Alexander was arrested for manufacturing meth, possession of meth and possession or use of drug-related objects, according to jail reports.
Information from these two people being arrested, tipped off agents that another lab was at Bruce’s relative’s house on Butler Diary Road, Summerville, according to sheriff’s officials. The following day, drug agents found another meth lab at 1387 Hemphill Road. That lab was located in the basement of a house. The fumes were so bad, according to officials, that the fire department was called to ventilate the structure. Once the fumes were disbursed, drug agents were able to dispose of the lab. Those arrested in that bust, according to jail reports, were: * Charles William Porter, 48, of 146 Ridge Street, Menlo, for conspiracy to manufacturing meth, manufacturing meth, possession of altered ephedrine and criminal attempt to manufacturing meth. * James Willie Guffey, 53, of 104 Reece St., Menlo, for criminal attempt to manufacture meth, manufacturing meth, possession of altered ephedrine and conspiracy to ma nufacture meth. |
