Workers from the local Georgia Forestry Commission searched Sunday night (September 7) and Monday for a mysterious object spotted atop a ridge off Ga. 100.

About an hour before sunset Sunday, Eric Reynolds was sitting on his couch when he spotted a shiny object nestled in the trees on a neighboring ridge.

By the time deputies arrived, it was dark and they didn’t see the object in question. Reynolds was afraid that the almost metallic looking object might be a downed airplane.

“We went up there to look for something but we never could find anything,” Forestry worker Dean Cornett said. “We don’t have any idea (what it is). We walked the whole side of the mountain and didn’t find anything.”

The next day Forestry employees, Reynolds and a deputy looked through binoculars and could see the object in the distance but could not positively identify what it was.

“I look at that mountain all the time. I was sitting on the couch yesterday and I was looking out the window and I said, ‘I see something on that mountain . . . ” Reynolds said.

Reynolds asked his family to look at the object also, to see if they could determine its origin. After pondering its almost triangular shape, Reynolds thought it might be a tail section of a plane perhaps.

“I was afraid that there was somebody up there hung up in a tree,” Reynolds said.

Despite the forestry’s searching the area, they never found the mysterious object. The News went to Reynolds’ house, on top of an adjacent ridge, and saw the object in question. It appears to be some small, white and triangular shaped object.

“It could be just some piece of plastic a recent storm blew up,” Cornett said.
